A mobile visit goes better with a little preparation, and most of it costs you nothing but a few minutes.
Describe the symptom properly
This is the highest-value thing you can do. The more specific you are, the better we can arrive with the right parts, which is the difference between a one-visit repair and two.
Useful details:
- **When it happens** — cold start, after driving a while, only when turning, only over bumps, only in the rain
- **What it sounds or feels like**, in your own words
- **How long it has been happening** and whether it is getting worse
- **What changed** — did it start after a repair, an accessory installation, hitting a pothole
- **Any warning lights**, and whether they are steady or flashing
- **Year, make, model, engine and rough mileage**
A flashing check engine light in particular changes the urgency — that indicates a misfire severe enough to damage the catalytic converter, and it means stop driving.
Prepare the space
- **Park on level, solid ground** — a driveway or a firm parking spot, not grass or a steep slope
- **Leave room around the vehicle**, ideally on all sides
- **Move other vehicles** out of the way
- **Clear the area** of bikes, toys and anything else in the way
- **Have the keys available**, including any wheel lock key
That wheel lock key catches people out on brake and tire work constantly. It is usually in the glovebox, the center console or with the spare tire. Find it before we arrive.
Check the property rules
Some HOAs, condo associations, apartment complexes and office parks prohibit vehicle repair on the property. It is worth confirming before scheduling rather than discovering it when the hood is up.
If your building does not allow it, a nearby lot or a friend's driveway usually solves it.
Have the paperwork
If you have recent repair records, especially for related work, have them handy. Knowing that the alternator was replaced eight months ago, or that a shop already did the plugs, saves diagnostic time and stops you paying for the same thing twice.
If a previous shop gave you a quote or a diagnosis, share it. We are happy to give you a second opinion and we would rather know what you have already been told.
Plan for the time
You do not need to stand there for the whole visit, and you do need to be reachable. We will want to walk you through what we find before doing work beyond what was quoted, and getting an approval quickly keeps the job moving.
Weather
South Florida afternoons do what they do. Some work continues in light rain and some does not, particularly anything electrical or anything requiring the car in the air. We will reschedule rather than rush a job in a downpour, and we would rather tell you that than do it badly.
Ask questions
The advantage of mobile service is that the technician is right there and you can watch. Ask what the part looked like, ask why it failed, ask what to watch for. That transparency is most of the point.
